*(SAMPLE) MONTHLY STUDENT LESSON PLAN*
TEACHING AND LEARNING MONTHLY THEME SUMMARY This month we will introduce and celebrate Chinese traditions, as we bring in the new Lunar year—the year of the Rabbit! The students will listen to Chinese music and read stories about Chinese culture. Making some 红包 hong bao -- literally red packets -- is a very authentic and easy craft for celebrating Chinese New Year. It is thought to bring good luck and fortune to the family. In celebrating Chinese New Year, the children will read about tribute to and connection between family, mother earth, moon and all living things. The children will participate in several science projects and introduce new vocabulary (craters, gravity, rings, orbit, satellite, supernova, etc.). This month will mostly be focused around Science Education! We will introduce the solar system, focusing on the moon, sun and planet earth. Students will read stories about astronauts, space shuttles, and dust storms, as well as Saturn’s many moons and rings, among others. Students will read and watch video clips about the moon, earth and solar system as a whole. Lastly, in observance of African American month, we will celebrate the accomplishments of various African Americans leaders who have contributed to the progression of our society. Students will read about Rosa Parks, Muhammad Ali, Barack Obama, MLK, etc. WEEKLY LESSON PLAN Week of Feb. 1—Student will work on Chinese New Year lucky money envelopes (Chinese writing/the year of the rabbit), Asian storytelling (circle time) & music appreciation, Chiunese writing sample & light lantern *Dd, Red & Gold, Heart, #19, Dress like your favorite animal Friday (rabbit?)!
